The People Connection

For a guy who never wanted to focus on people it’s funny how all of my professional work became all about people with weddings being my big focus.

Being a bit of a black sheep in my family and never going to a “family” wedding - they become this wonderful look into families that weren’t as dysfunctional as my own. The emotion and love is what hooked me on it.

I remember when a friend asked me to second shoot a wedding he was doing for the grooms father as a favor to a friend. I didn’t know much about shooting weddings so starting looking around and stumbled on the the subject of “wedding photojournalism”, telling the story of the wedding day. This led me to my greatest inspiration, Joe Buissink, whose work perfectly captured this idea. So while some of my wedding work was still the grand portraits, what I really loved was the moments, the emotion.
