Photography was never a single focus but a way to interact with
the world.
I’ve sometimes be envious of those photographers whose portfolios focus on a single subject and style and just master it. Me photography was how I recorded the world around me. The starting point for my interactions with people. For some years my self image.
When I left the IT world to open my studio my initial focus was commercial and still life photography, I swore I’d never shoot weddings, high school seniors, etc. My social skills were horrible and I wanted to interact with people as little as possible.
Well that lasted maybe a few weeks. That first wedding I was a second shooter at as a favor to a friend was my undoing. The emotion, the pageantry, I was hooked. Bring on all the people.
I’ve never benefitted more from any favor I did for someone else in my life. By shifting my focus and embracing my fear of working with strangers I met some of the most wonderful people in my life, many of whom twenty and thirty years later I still consider close friends and family. The best thing about those studio years wasn’t the work I created, but the people it brought into my life.
So my work shown here is a wide variety of stuff, but the work with people what I look back on most fondly.
